How to play Word Search
Start Word Search by looking at the playing area and its controls. Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.
Each board contains eight target words from the included English word list.
Try a deliberate move
After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Use the example to check your reasoning.
Your goal
Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Start with a deliberate move.
Step by step
- Select the first and last letter of a straight word.
- Words can run horizontally, vertically or diagonally, in either direction.
- Find all eight targets.
- New puzzle shuffles again.
Controls
Tap or click endpoints. Use the control method described here for this activity. Look at the feedback after the action.
A useful example
Selecting the endpoints in reverse order also finds the same word. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Read the matching step again.
Watch out for this
Words cannot turn corners. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
